Dillon Watkins

Bio

Mr. Dillon Watkins is the Assistant Director of Bands at Houston County High School. As the assistant director, Mr. Watkins conducts the Symphonic Winds, Concert Band II, assists with the Black and Silver Brigade, teaches music appreciation, and is involved with all other facets of the school’s band program. In addition to his responsibilities at Houston County, Mr. Watkins is a freelance trumpet player in central Georgia.

Prior to his appointment at Houston County, Mr. Watkins served as the Director of Bands at Tattnall Square Academy in Macon, GA and as the Music Specialist at Hilltop Elementary in Bonaire, GA. Watkins has been involved with Drum Corps International since 2013 and has marched or been on staff with the seven time world champion Cavaliers of Rosemont, Illinois, ALLIANCE of Atlanta, Georgia, and Genesis of Austin, Texas. Most recently, he served as the Brass Caption Head at Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Watkins earned his Bachelors of Music Education from Mercer University in 2017. While at Mercer, Watkins performed extensively with the jazz band, wind ensemble, as a member of various brass chamber ensembles, and served as a drum major for the Mercer University Marching Band. Mr. Watkins’ holds or has held professional affiliations including the Georgia Music Educators Association, National Association for Music Education, and the National Band Association. 

Mr. Watkins and his wife, Grace, reside in Bonaire, Georgia. Grace is a biology teacher and competition cheer coach at Houston County. They are the proud parents of one son, John Wesley, who is one year old.
